Dear Videographer,

Maybe you're looking for your first real job as a videographer in the outdoor or fishing space...

Or maybe you've been filming and editing for a while and are looking to work at a place that ignites your passion you've always had for the profession.

Maybe you wish you worked at a place where your boss's ego didn't smother your creativity...

Or maybe a place where you could truly help people create amazing experiences and see your work making an impact in the real world... especially as it relates to fishing.

Let's face it, the landscape in the fishing world is changing... The consumer is forcing how fishing content is consumed.

Fishermen demand amazing video footage (and they deserve nothing less).

What's sad is that many of the traditional fishing outlets that we've enjoyed for years won't make the transition in time... their "Going Out Of Business" sign is already outside of their building - they just can't see it yet.

If I described the place where you currently work (and you like it), then stop reading this and stay put - the rest of this letter is not for you.

On the other hand...

If you feel you could offer a whole lot more with your talents...

If you are frustrated that you can't use more of your creativity in your projects...

Or if you're tired of working with boring people whose passion left them a long time ago and you've had enough...

Then this letter is for you.

Hi, I'm Joe Simonds, one of the co-founders here at Salt Strong.

Our entire mission is to help fishermen catch more fish in less time.

We help fishermen achieve this through our private Fishing Club (where we give exclusive tips, reviews, fishing spot dissections, and weekly fishing reports), along with comprehensive fishing courses.

Almost all of it requires top-notch video production.

That's where you come in.

But first, let me make a confession to you...

When my brother Luke and I first started Salt Strong, one of our very first hires was a full-time videographer/editor.

It didn't end as planned... we had to let him go in less than a year of hiring him.

In all honesty, it was mostly my fault...

I was one of those arrogant owners - feeling that I knew it all simply because I controlled the checkbook.

I gave orders about exactly how the videos should look and didn't leave much room for the videographer's creativity. It was my way or the highway.

Looking back, no wonder that employee never blossomed or felt truly fulfilled in his role. I was holding him back from excellence!

If you worked for me back then, I'm sorry.

But I'm not that same guy any more.

As I have gotten older and wiser, I find that our company achieves so much more through collaboration and creativity (nothing is worse than having a dictator in charge).

In fact, I now believe that listening, bouncing ideas off each other, and truly collaborating is the only way.

As a result, everyone wakes up thrilled to go to work now, and more importantly, we all truly enjoy the people we work with.

It's like a family.

Back to the videographer role...

The other big lesson I learned recently is that we really need a full-time videographer/editor on board (as soon as possible).

Currently, we have one of the best videographers in the business giving us a handful of days per month... but a handful of days is not enough for the IMPACT we are trying to accomplish (and he's got other committments that prevent him from coming on board full-time).

So we need help.

But not just any videographer will do.

We are looking for someone with a burning passion for helping get more people out fishing.

We are looking for someone who goes above and beyond with every project.

Finally, we are looking for someone who can find fulfillment in creating masterpieces... the kind of masterpieces that impact anglers for multiple generations... creating content that stands the test of time.

Does that sound like you?

If so, keep reading.

Let me tell you about the three big things we are focused on right now:

1. Creating an over-the-top video experience for our customers. I want them to feel like they are on the boat with us... to make the footage so real that they can visualize themselves doing everything we are teaching. The days of average "homemade" videos are over. We want to create an experience people not only remember, but are dying to tell their fishing buddies about.

2. Producing step-by-step fishing courses that blow the socks off people.

3. Producing weekly fishing reports and tutorials that trump everything else out there.

This is who are we are and what's important to us over the next couple of years.

If this resonates with you, then consider joining our team.

We need a videographer/editor who will enthusiastically embrace this approach to giving fishermen an experience they will never forget.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the profession of making amazing fishing videos.

Someone who only wants to produce the BEST.

Someone who communicates well and can be creative without a "boss" looking over their shoulder and breathing down their neck.

Someone who is self-motivated.

We need someone who has professional discretion yet has a sense of humor (and likes to have fun).

Please don't consider this job if you curse like a sailor, routinely gossip, talk poorly of your colleagues, or can't come to work with a positive outlook every single day.

We want people "on the Salt Strong rocket ship," but not someone who pushes others under one...

"I'm interested! What's next?"

If interested, please do the following:

1) Send a paragraph about why you might be a good fit to joe@saltstrong.com with the subject line "Videographer"

2) Tell me about your favorite filming story or video shoot (could be funny, amazing, inspiring, etc).

Nothing too lengthy, just something to get us started.

Note: this email (joe@saltstrong.com) is my private email (it only comes to me) and I promise 100% confidentiality.

If you have videos that you 100% produced (filmed and edited) then send a link to those as well in your email to me.

The next step (after we receive your email and feel that you could be a great fit) is to set up a phone interview so we can learn about each other, make sure this is a good match for both parties.

We're based out of Tampa, FL and the ideal candidate would need to live nearby.

Also, we're ready to start when you are (as soon as July).

Finally, please read through our "Core Beliefs" and make sure your values and goals align with ours (click here to read the Salt Strong Core Beliefs)

Listen, where you work speaks volumes about you, so I hope you work at a place that challenges you, is fun and supportive, and helps you grow as an individual.

If you think that might be us, then start by dropping me an email so we can schedule a time to talk.

Tight lines,

Joe Simonds
